Plot

It all starts in Cosmic Era 71. There is a new race of human called the coordinator. They are genetically advanced humans who live in the Plant. The Plant are like colonies, except that look like two upside down codes put together. The Naturals, normal human beings, out of fear, showed racism towards these coordinators. This started war between the two with the Naturals nuclear attack on the plant, Junius 7. It was a huge massacre that started the war, and because of this Athrun Zala, and Kira Yamato; two best friends from childhood, are now at opposite sides of the battle field facing each other in a battle with their Gundams.

The Seed

This concept is seen in the series various times, and is the name of the series, “Gundam Seed”. This seed is when a coordinator gets so emotionally in tuned that his “seed” breaks and he is allowed ultimate concentration and optimal performance. The seed usually breaks when the coordinator is emotionally unstable. When the seed breaks the coordinator calms down and gets murder instincts. Only some coordinators have this and those are, Lacus Clyne, Kira Yamato, Athrun Zala, and Shin Asuka.

Background Information

• Biological CPU- These are humans that have been artificially enhanced to pilot mobile suits. It is extremely difficult for Naturals to pilot mobile suits; thus, the Alliance decided to manufacture these CPUs. These CPUs are above and/or the level of coordinators; therefore, leveling the playing field in the battle. The CPUs also have micro chips installed in the glands and brain so the chips can eliminate all sense of fear. The Alliance also gives them doses of Gamma Glipheptin which increase stamina and reaction speed. But when the drug wears off the experience excruciating pain and have to leave the battle field. These


• Bloody Valentine- This happened on February 14,C.E. 70. The Alliance nuked the PLANT Junius 7 with a first attack. It was a massacre since there were a huge majority of citizens and not ZAFT. But this event is what made all the coordinators join ZAFT and intensified the battle field. The Alliance claims that the PLANT self-destructed, but it is proven that it was a nuclear attack from the Alliance.


• Coordinator- These are genetically enhanced humans. They barely become sick; they have better reflexes, learn faster, and are better than naturals. This caused jealously among the Naturals so there were many bans on genetic engineering. Out of this grew racism of coordinators; thus, forcing them to go to the PLANT. These genetic enhancements can only be made in the early stages of embryonic development. The first coordinator was George Glenn who revealed his genetic engineering secrets worldwide. He called himself a coordinator, “One who will show the way to a bright future.”


• Desert Tiger- He is really Andrew Waltfeld. This is the nickname given to him by ZAFT because of his tactical skill in the desert.


• Cosmic Era (C.E.)- This new calendar was adopted after the Reconstruction war by the United States of America. This is also the era of which both Gundam Seed and Destiny take place. Gundam Seed started, January 25,C.E. 71; and Gundam Seed Destiny starts at, October 2, C.E. 73.



• George Glenn- He was the first coordinator. He won a Nobel prize at 20 because of his enhanced abilities. Then in C.E. 15 he went to Jupiter, and that’s when he revealed how he was created. HE discovered a fossil called Evidence 01 which proved that there was extraterrestrial life in space. When he came back he started building the PLANT so he could study the fossil, but in C.E. 53 a Natural killed him because he wanted to be born a coordinator.


• Gundam- This has three names in the series. The first is from the GAT-Z series, “General Unilateral Neuro-link Dispersive Autonomic Maneuver system”. The second is in the mobile suits with neutron jammer cancellers, “Generation Unsubdued Nuclear Drive/Assault Module complex”. The third is after the war when N-jammers were prohibited, the new meaning was, “Generation Unrestricted Network Drive Assault Module.”


• Extended- These are like biological CPUs except they seem to not have the painful symptoms and the needed doses of Gamma Glipheptin, but they do require maintenance through special equipment. The Extendeds are Sting Oakley, Stella Loussier, and Auel Neider. These are the upgraded biological CPUs.


• Natural- These are normal human beings. They shoed jealously and racism towards the coordinators because of their enhanced abilities. This is one of the reasons the war started. Each side believed that the other should be eliminated in order to live in peace.


• PLANT- Initially this stood for, “Productive Location Ally on Nexus Technology”. The PLANT were fist built by George Glenns. The 120 PLANT are at the Lagrange point 5. The name PLANT symbolizes their initial use for research, but their nature environments with waterfalls and plants makes it seem like another Earth. PLANT, symbolizing their independence, then changed their name to, “People Liberation Acing Nation of Technology”. The PLANT are grouped into twelve sectors. • ZAFT- This is the PLANT’s defense and offensive army. The teams are organized with a caption and a commander. Also those who were red suits are of higher rank than those with green suits. Also they have a honor symbol with ZAFT members called FAITH. Athrun and Shinn are a part of this elite group. ZAFT stands for Zodiac Alliance of Freedom Treaty.

Organizations

• Atlantic Federation
  
  It consists of Great Britain and the United States of America. This is the major player in the Alliance.
  


• Blue Cosmos
  
  These people are the radical racists of coordinators. They believe that all coordinators need to be eliminated, “For the preservation our blue and pure world”. The Blue Cosmos is the Atlantic Federations main supplier.
  


• Logos
  
  These are the group of people who control Blue Cosmos from behind the scenes. They want to create conflict so they can destroy all coordinators, and the current leader is Lord Djibril.
  


• Clyne Faction
  
  This group is formed after Lacus Clyne gives Kira Yamato the Freedom Gundam. The PLANT take Siegel Clyne and his followers as traitors. In Destiny many ZAFT join Lacus Clyne to thwart against plans, and in seed, they fought against Patrick Zala and his idea domination against the naturals.
  


• Desert Dawn
  
  Centered in Northern Africa, this resistance group fights against ZAFT. Cagalli used to be with them. The leader of the group is Sahib Ashman.
  


• Earth Alliance
  
  
  This is the collaboration of many political nations to battle against ZAFT. Being established in February 7 C.E. 70 they consist of the three most powerful federations such as the Atlantic, Eurasian, and the Republic of East Asia.
  


• Genetic Advanced Reproductive
  
  Also known as the GARM R&D, this facility was the base of genetically experimenting with the research of coordinator production.
  


• Orb Union
  
  The union is located in the southern Pacific Ocean. This is probably the most powerful neutral union. They have their own Gundams for defense and their own mass driver, a huge launcher for sending ships to space; thus, Orb is a wanted place. The Athha family rules and they will defend their neutrality to death.
  


• Phanton Pain
  
  This is the ship that houses the Extendeds and steals the three Gundams from the PLANT. This is also one of the antagonists in Destiny.
  


• PLANT Supreme Council
  
  This council governs the PLANTS, and ZAFT. Each members being elected they meet in Aprilius One. IT is divided into a complicated system of committees and chairmen for each committee.
  


• World Security Treaty Organization
  
  Initially not a part of the Alliance this organization was formed after the fall of Junius 7. But later on they ally with the Atlantic federation to join the Alliance.
  
  


• ZAFT
  
  This is the PLANT’s defense and offensive army. The teams are organized with a caption and a commander. Also those who were red suits are of higher rank than those with green suits. Also they have a honor symbol with ZAFT members called FAITH. Athrun and Shinn are a part of this elite group. ZAFT stands for Zodiac Alliance of Freedom Treaty.
  

Weapons

• Anit-Beam Depth Charge
  This is a defense weapon. When a pile of shots are coming towards you these charge are shot out creating a cloud of particle absorbing smoke which block most shots from the ship.


• Armor Schneider
  This is the knife used by the Strike Freedom.



• Beam Rifle
  This is a rifle that fire concentrated beams of enemy and can pierce phase shift armor.


• Beam Saber
  A sword of energy that can cut through many things. It is a prototype because before, like the GINN suit, they would have giant swords. It uses electromagnetic field technology to hold the beam in place and concentrate the energy.


• APU
  This is just a generator to give a mobile suit extra energy before taking off so it doesn’t deplete any more energy while launching. APU stands for Auxiliary Power Unit.


• GENESIS
  GENESIS stands for Gamma Emission by Nuclear Explosion Stimulate Inducing System. Just like the name states it is a huge laser cannon that fires gamma rays in a concentrated area, destroying everything in its path. The mechanics on using it were taken from gundamofficial.com, “The burst of gamma radiation created by the explosion is directed towards an external alignment mirror, then reflected back onto the weapon's main section, where a secondary mirror turns it into a coherent laser beam. The alignment mirror block, which lies in the beam's path, is reduced to radioactive scrap and must be replaced before the weapon can be fired again.” GENEIS is protected from phase-shift armor making it very hard to destroy.


• High impuse Canon
  A huge canon that resembles a ship’s main guns.


• Lohengrin Cannon
  This is a huge positron canon which has immense destructive power, but it’s harmful to the environment.



• Mobile Armor
  This is the standard weapon of the Alliance. This is a one-main vehicle that is used to battle ZAFT. Since Naturals aren’t as good at piloting as the coordinators Mobile Armors seemed the best choice for a natural, but this is also why the Alliance decided to make the Gundams.


• Mobile Suit
  This is the standard weapon for ZAFT. These differ from mobile armor because they take on a more humanoid shape.


• Neutron Jammer
  This is what ZAFT created to combat against the Alliance nuclear attacks, and to prevent another Bloody Valentine. ZAFT shot these down all over the world to stop all nuclear activity.


• Neutron Jammer Canceller
  This was also developed by ZAFT for the use in Gundams and for their weapon, GENESIS. The mobile suit’s use these to have nuclear powered engines since running out of energy was a big problem on the battle field. Also with nuclear power the machines run more efficiently so using these helps.


• Phase Shift Armor
  Also called PS armor. This nullifies all physical attacks, and helps against beams. This armor uses a lot of energy so it is a disadvantage as well. Also the color of the mobile suit changes color as the armor activates.


• Plasma Booster
  This is an amazing booster that lets ships blast into space.



• Positron Blaster Cannon
  This cannon fires a concentrated beam of positrons. A positron is the opposite of an electron with the same mass so when these positrons hit against other electrons they eliminate each other making a huge range of gamma emission; thus, eliminating the object.


• Positron Reflector
  This armor reflects and blocks against almost anything. It is in most of the new Gundams in Destiny and some mobile armor have it. It can deflect the Positron Blaster Cannon so it is a powerful weapon.
